The Restorative Power of Herbs
Consider the rituals that were sold to you today. Did your TV encourage you to get a prescription for a weight loss injection? Did your phone offer you a deal on subscription shampoo? Did the billboard outside your office gleam with advice from a food delivery service? This world wants to profit off of our bodies, our personal moments of nurturing.
The Earth has always provided what we need. Technology has warped our perception of connection, especially our connection to ourselves and our bodies. There are many ways to redevelop bodily awareness and eventually extend that outward. Intentional observation. Building a yoga practice. Rerooting to the natural resources that have sustained us for eons.
Herbs are more than pretty garnishes for a filling meal. For longer than we have used them as seasoning, humans have used herbs medicinally. Our wisdom is ancient and practiced, and it is compiled here for you to understand the purposes of the infused oils in our Care Shop. (Not necessarily to be used in replacement of modern medicine, but in conjunction.) We continue to add to this list.
Basil can be used as a sedative, or to ease headaches or anxiety. When ingested, it suppresses stomach cramps or constipation.
Eucalyptus oil is a natural disinfectant. It effectively treats wounds, inflammation, and joint stiffness, and can be used as a dye with varying shades.
Lavender treats insomnia, headaches, and burns. Lavender oil contains antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It can also be used to repel moths and mosquitoes.
Lemongrass contains antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. Traditionally, it’s been used to ease pain or reduce fever.
Thyme soothes bruising and swelling when used topically. When ingested in small doses, it calms nausea, bronchitis, and laryngitis.
Vanilla extract (not vanilla essence, which is harvested from petroleum or wood byproducts) is calming, minimizing the effects of sleep apnea, toothaches, and stress. It also contains antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
